Rules

JailBreak 2009 Rules

By signing and returning your application form, you are agreeing to abide by the following rules. Contestants found breaking rules will be disqualified from the competition.

1.The JailBreak starts at 12pm on Saturday 7th March 2009 and ends at Midnight GMT on Sunday (8th March 2009).

2.All participants must be 18 years old or above.

3.There must be a minimum of two people in a team, and a maximum of four.

4.Do not split up. This can cause unnecessary danger, if you can’t all get a lift, find another mode of transport.

5.Hitch hiking is permitted, but do not thumb lifts on the motorway or motorway slip roads, as this is illegal.

6.You may carry cash and or a credit/debit card which can be used to buy food, and in case of emergency.

7.You should try to obtain free return travel at the same time as you secure your outbound travel. Should this prove not possible, you are permitted to pay for your return journey. You will be disqualified if you spend any money on your outward journey.

8.Ensure that you have any personal items stowed away securely, as the organisers cannot be held responsible for any lost items.

9.None of your own transport can be used on the outward journey. This includes using family or friends transport.

10.Each time you change your mode of transport or enter a new country, you must contact headquarters with the details such as flight number, vehicle registration and location. This is for your safety.

11.All Team Members must arrive at the registration point on Avoncroft Museum for registration on Saturday 7th March between 9am and 10am.

12.At midnight GMT on Sunday 8 March, you must make a phone call to your allocated number to state where you are. If you are able, find a land line to make your call so that your location can be verified. If this is not possible, you must phone on a mobile then do one of the following:

  • Take a photo of your team by a recognisable landmark; a landmark could be a famous shop, bridge, piece of rock with a plaque on it, or even a road sign that shows the name of town/city, or distance to nearest town/city. You may need to use your imagination, but it must be a photo that proves where you are! (Either take one at arm’s length to include whole team, or take two photos, each with different member taking the photo.)
  • Buy a local newspaper and take a photo of team holding the newspaper. You may have to plan to buy the paper before the shops close.


13.Teams may not knowingly or otherwise break the laws of any country whilst taking part.

14.You must have a valid passport, travel insurance and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You can obtain an EHIC card by calling 0845 606 2030, by picking up an application form from the Post Office, or by visiting the department of health website; http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/index.htm.

15.Each team member must have a mobile phone on them, which must be switched on for the duration of the event.

16.In case of emergency please contact emergency services, and contact headquarters as soon as possible. You will be given a phone number for Headquarters on the day.

17.All photographic evidence needs to be emailed to the dedicated email address as soon as possible, and no later than 5.30pm, Friday, 13th March 2009.

18.Distance achieved is calculated “As the Crow Flies”, point to point.  The judges decision is final.

19.All Team Members must post their sponsorship forms and monies raised in sponsorship by Saturday 4th April 2009, in the sealed, signed envelope provided. Please send to the address provided.

20.No team shall receive a prize if they have outstanding sponsorship money.
